Mary Lou Young, 93, of Colonial Heights, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2021. She was born on May 28, 1928, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Ellison and Helen Shaffer Snyder and was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Karl C. Young. She was also preceded in death by a son, Roger Young; daughter, Marcia Harding and daughter-in-law, Trudy Young.
Mary Lou was a member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church in South Chesterfield. She grew up in Chesterville, Ohio with her nine siblings, later moving to Richmond, Virginia in 1958. Mary Lou was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed puzzles, crafting and painting.
She is survived by two sons, Mike Young (Karen) of Powhatan and Greg Young (Beth) of Asheboro, North Carolina; a daughter, Terri Sawyer (Buddy) of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; 12 loving grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Patty Naumann and Phyllis Hawk of Chesterville, Ohio and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2021 at The Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia Court House, Virginia 23002.
The family would like to thank the Dunlop House for their loving and compassionate care shown to their mother. They are also grateful for the care given by Amedisys Hospice.
