Mason Tudor Chalkley, 77, of Chesterfield, passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Chippenham Medical Center. He was the son of the late Percy Mason, and Estelle Tudor Chalkley. Mr. Chalkley was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a retired Major for Chesterfield County Police. He was an Adjunct Professor for VCU, and John Tyler Community College. Mr. Chalkley was a member of Chester Masonic Lodge #94, a member of the Petersburg/Dinwiddie Camp of the Gideons International, and was a very active member of Woods United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher for over forty years, and served on many committees. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary Perkinson Chalkley; four sisters-in-law, Bernice P. Schenck, Shirley P. Cimburke (Junny), Bettie P. Shelton (Alvin), and Jean P. Joyner (Henry). A special nephew, William Lee, and wife, Sandra; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011, at Woods United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, Petersburg, 23803. Interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening (tonight), from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
