Mattie Birchett

Mattie Elizabeth Farmer Birchett, 73, of Chester, formerly of Hopewell, passed away with her family by her side on Monday, May 22, 2017. Born on July 28, 1943 in Bangor Alabama, she was the daughter of the late Harold A. and Corinne Smith Farmer, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Jean; brothers, Sam, David, Rex; sisters, Bitty, Edith and Kitty. She worked for Peoples Drugstore for more than 15 years, and spent 20 years caring for and spoiling children. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Mike Birchett; children, Michelle Tirpak and husband, Adam, Debbie Honn and husband, Chuck, Michael Birchett and wife, Tanya; grandchildren, AJ, Zach, Mason, Ashely, Amber, Brandon, Abigail, Allison, Brody, Brandon, Kyle, Kolby; great-granddaughter, Gabriella; bonus son, Todd Bailey and wife, Cheri; brother, Harold Farmer, wife Sarah; sisters, Janie Courtney, Joyce Morrison and husband, Fred. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Wednesday night, May 24, 2017 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
