Melvin Davis was born on August 1, 1939, and passed to Heaven on Sunday, March 10, 2024, peacefully at home with his children and grandchildren at his side.
Melvin was born in Edenton, North Carolina. He was raised by his maternal grandparents and graduated high school there, but moved his family to Virginia to pursue a career in carpentry. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 388 for 25 years and retired from Cleveland Cement with 20 years of service as a Company Superintendent. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order Eagles Club for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William Albert & Tallullah Moore Goodwin, and paternal grandparents, Oliver & Daisey Davis.
He is survived by his brother, Clinton Davis (Judi); daughter, Melva Foster (favorite Son-in-Law, Wade); son, Kenny Davis (Sherry); granddaughters, Kelly Cifers (Brandon) and Sarah Foster (Jason); great grandsons, Levi Cifers and Wyatt Cifers; devoted friends, Emily McNelly and Paul McCauley; nephew, Tim Davis (Ellen); niece, Julie Hallum (Bryan); and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4814 Courthouse Rd, Church Road, VA 23833. Arrangements are by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes.
