Mereldyn Carol Hord Lowery

Mereldyn Carol Hord Lowery, 83, of South Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 25, 2023. Born on October 19, 1939 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late William Jesse Hord and Bessie McCallum Hord. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis “Ray” Lowery; three brothers; and two sisters.

Mereldyn grew up in Rockingham County and graduated from Rohanen High School in 1959. While her husband, CW4 Louis “Ray” Lowery, USA (Ret.) served in the United States Army, Mereldyn was a dedicated Army wife. Her unwavering support and devotion were evident in everything she did for her family. She was also a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, singing in their choir and going to Sunday school classes. Mereldyn loved to craft and garden, and could grow just about everything.

She is survived by her loving children, Teresa Lowery-Marquard (David) and Todd Lowery (Rose); grandchildren, Shawn and Jason Tremer, James Smith, and Kyle Marquard; brother, Franklin Hord; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Hord; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 620 Lafayette Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. before the service at the church. A reception will be held at the church following the funeral service. Interment will take place privately in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory.
