Merle Staton Jennings

Merle Staton Jennings, 84, of Chester, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023. She was born in Georgetown County, South Carolina on November 21, 1938, and was raised in Scottsville, Virginia. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dabney R. Staton, Sr. and Eva Hunt Staton; Willard R. Jennings, her loving husband of 35 years; and ten siblings. Merle was a longtime member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and will be missed immensely. She is survived by her son, Christopher Jennings and wife, Tammie Miller Jennings; daughter, Shannon Jennings Warden and husband, Scott Warden; grandchildren, Christopher Jennings, II., Stephen Quinn, Brandon Quinn, Samantha Jennings Underwood, Benjamin Jennings, Austin Warden, Brad Tyler King, Evan Warden, Seth King, and Noah Warden; six great-grandchildren; nieces, Jennifer Stanley and Amber Brown; sister and only surviving sibling out of twelve, Carol Coleman; and many other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the funeral home.
