Mildred Gill

February 2, 1928 — April 14, 2017

Mildred Pauline Carmack Gill, 89, also known as "Polly" to family and friends, passed from this life on April 14, 2017. She was a resident of Colonial Heights for 40 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Reverend Lawrence W. Gill, Sr. (Larry); beloved mother of four children, Peggy Payne (Benton) of Colonial Heights, VA; Linda Johnson (Aubrey) of Carson, VA; Larry Gill, Jr. (Kathy) of Newark, Delaware; and Jonathan Gill (Jean) of Colonial Heights, VA; beloved Grandmother of seven, Stephanie Payne Connelly (Greg) of Petersburg, VA; Wade Payne, Jr. of Colonial Heights, VA; Jimmy Johnson (Paige) of York County, VA; Kevin Johnson (Sheri) of Chester, VA; Jennifer Johnson McLaughlin (Ryan) of Prince George, VA; Brittney Gill Henning (Mike) of Wilmington, Delaware; and Rence Gill (Julia) of Alexandria, VA; and 3 Step-Grandchildren, Ryan Hatcher of Hopewell, VA; Alecia Hatcher Pond (Heath) of Richmond, VA; and Brandon Hatcher of Colonial Heights, VA; beloved Great-Grandmother of seven, Logan Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Madigan Johnson, Riley McLaughlin, Aubrey Henning, Reece Henning, and Rylan Henning; and Great-Grandmother of nine Step-Grandchildren. She was a supportive and loving minister' s wife for 34 years. After becoming a widow at a very early age, 50, she became a professional Tailor/Seamstress and started her own business, "Alterations & Sewing by Polly". She designed, altered and sewed for many of the Colonial Heights, Chester and Petersburg residents for 35 years. Many beauty pageants, weddings and prom dresses have been touched by her God-given talent! She enjoyed life and the beauty it held until we realized she was struggling with memory issues. Diagnosed with Dementia in January 2017, she had quite a physical struggle for four months. In Heaven with our Lord & Savior, we know she is in a better place at peace. Our prayers and thoughts are with all Dementia patients and their loved ones. Special thanks to our "Angels" with Crater Hospice. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Dr. Andy Brockelman officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com
