Miriam Hatchett of Petersburg, Virginia entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, June 7, 2018. After a long and valiant battle with cancer she died peacefully at the home of her loving son, Paul Kelly Hatchett and loving daughter-in-law, Crystal. Hospice was engaged at home the last week of her life and they facilitated the easy transition of the last few days of her life here on Earth. Ms. Hatchett was born in Westmont, New Jersey on August 23, 1937. She was the daughter of the late John J. Bach and the loving, incredible mother, Miriam E. Bach, who resides in Petersburg and is at the present the young age of 101 years old. At the age of 4 she and her parents, along with elder sister, Elaine and younger brother, John and Paul, moved to Virginia. While in Virginia, her family grew with the addition of four more much younger brothers. Her large family was of great importance and she cherished each and every one of them. Through the years, she has lost her father, brothers, John and Paul, and her sister Elaine. Her loss was greatly felt all these years ever since. After a brief marriage, she divorced and was left with a wonderful son, whom she loved dearly and reared him entirely as a single parent. During her working years, she was employed at Fort Lee in Civil Service from 1962 until she retired in 1995. Her hobbies, loves and passions included swimming, skiing and traveling. She loved sports of all kinds, music, plays and dancing. She was an active member of the Petersburg Festival Chorus. She was part of the Petersburg Lions Club and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. As a fiercely independent woman, she loved her life throughout with great will, strength and dignity. She was a mother, a father, a daughter and a sister. Her great love for her family was her hallmark and she always sought after their love and understanding. She leaves behind her loving son and daughter-in-law, along with her lovely elderly mother, four brothers, miscellaneous in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Great thanks to her loving brother, Jerry, for his unconditional love and support throughout her great illness. Special thanks to her close and loving friends, Lorraine, Michael, Shirley, Miss Ella and her loving cousins, George and Linda.
