Monte Eugene (Gene) Woodfin, 79, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, died Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, after a valiant battle with cancer. Gene was born October 29, 1932 in Richmond, of the late Jesse and Emily Wright Woodfin. Gene was a proud veteran of the Navy and served on the USS Lake Champlain during the Korean War. He worked for AT&T (Lucent), retiring in 1989 after traveling the world. Gene then worked as a Magistrate for the City of Colonial Heights from 1991 to 1995. He was the Treasurer at First Baptist Church of Montverde, and a long-time volunteer at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, Florida. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Eva Fleming Woodfin, his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Guy Barbagelata, Wall Township, New Jersey, his aunt, Mrs. Linwood Wright, Richmond, brothers- and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and cousins, all of whom he cherished. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant daughter in 1968. He loved her always. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday May 9, 2012 in Chester Baptist Church 4317 West School Street Chester, Virginia 23831, with the Reverend. Dr. Lloyd Braswell, and the Reverend Ed Stansfield officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Park Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday May 8, 2012 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
