MSG James Randal Carstens (Ret.) US Army, 70, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at his residence. Born in Elma, Washington, he was the son of the late Ralph A. and Beatrice Lortz Carstens, and was preceded in death by a son, George Wade Carstens. He is survived by his wife, Linda Catherine Carstens; two daughters, Cathy Lin Dorton (Ken) of Fayetteville, Georgia and Michele Marie Ignacio of Adelaide, Australia; and five grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with Fr. Lou Ruoff, Celebrant. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church, Food Pantry. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
