MSG William Daniel Cody USA (ret.), 61, of Chester passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Retreat Hospital. Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Charles L. and Rosalee Bradt Cody, and was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Cody and a sister, Carol Mackie. Mr. Cody retired from the United States Army after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and was an avid golfer and pool player. He is survived by his wife, Bonita W. Cody; children, Crystal Ware and husband, Keith, William C. "Chuck" Cody and Erin M. Cody; grandchildren, Cody Ware, Jordan Ware, William Daniel "Liam" Cody II; sisters, Sharyn Trembath and Janet Gizelt and husband, George; sister-in-law, Betsy Cody; brother-in-law, David Mackie; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Inurnment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2012 in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, 10300 Pridesville Road, Amelia, Virginia 23002 with Pastor Jason Taylor officiating.
