Nancy Burt Tylar, 80, of Midlothian, formerly of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023. Born September 24, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Lois Branch and Ernest William (E.W.) Tylar.
Nancy was a devoted member of the 1st Baptist Church of Richmond, where she found comfort and inspiration through her faith. Throughout her professional journey, Nancy served as a bookkeeper at various establishments, employing her meticulous nature and strong work ethic to ensure the smooth financial operations of the organizations she served.
Nancy's passion for civic engagement led her to become the County Election Supervisor for Chesterfield County. In this role, she diligently worked to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, ensuring that every citizen's voice was heard and their votes were counted. Her dedication to democracy and public service made her an invaluable asset to her community.
As a substitute teacher, Nancy touched the lives of countless young minds, imparting knowledge and nurturing a love for learning. Her patience, kindness, and genuine care for her students left a lasting impact.
Nancy's involvement with the Order of Eastern Star was another testament to her compassionate spirit. As a former Worthy Matron, she exemplified the values of the organization, displaying loyalty, charity, and a commitment to uplifting others. Her contributions to the Eastern Star community will be forever remembered and cherished.
In her leisure time, Nancy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a passion for cooking, and her culinary skills were legendary. Friends and family would eagerly await invitations to her table, savoring the delicious meals she lovingly prepared. Additionally, she was an expert seamstress, pouring her talent into creating stunning wedding dresses and beautiful Easter dresses for her sisters. Her craftsmanship and attention to detail were admired by all.
Nancy's compassion extended to the animal kingdom as well. She had a deep love for animals and dedicated herself to their rescue and well-being. Countless furry friends found a loving home and a second chance at life through her selfless acts of kindness.
Nancy's memory will forever remain alive in the hearts of her loving family, including her sisters, Wilmah Payne (Henry), Kay Tylar, Beryle Tylar; niece, Adelle Thomas (Emmitt); and numerous cousins, as well as her cherished friends and the communities she served. Her legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 17, 2023 in Blandford Cemetery, 319 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal rescue. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
