Nancy Jessup Tyler, 83, of N. Dinwiddie passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Born December 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Katie Grissom and Joseph Clyde Jessup, Sr., and was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee Tyler, Jr.; brothers, Charlie M. Jessup, Joseph Clyde Jessup, Jr.; and sisters, Louise Jessup Emory and Clara Jessup Bass.
She found immense joy in attending Sunday services at Ocran United Methodist Church. Born to be a caregiver, Nancy dedicated her life to nurturing and loving those around her. Nancy's love for children was unparalleled. She spent countless hours babysitting not only her own grandchildren but also the children of friends, neighbors, and community members. Her warm and generous spirit made her a second mother to many, and her home was always a place of comfort and love.
Cooking was another of Nancy's great passions. She took immense pride in preparing delicious meals, especially for the members of Poole's Hunting Preserve. After a big fox hunt, hunters could always count on Nancy to have a hearty feast waiting for them. Her culinary skills and hospitality were legendary, and she traveled far and wide with her beloved husband, accompanying him to fox hunts across the region.
Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit. Her gentle soul and caring nature touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Janice Tyler Bain (Jim); son, Roy J. Tyler (Janet); four grandchildren, Jessica Bain Elmore (Jon), Jacob Warren Bain (Tina), Amanda Tyler Smith (Johnathan), Alison Tyler Adams (Colton); numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances J. Harrell, Barbara J. Scribner; brother, Richard "Buck" Jessup; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas Texas 75284-0692. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
