Nell Dalton Smith of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015. Born on November 19, 1931 in Red Oak, VA she was the daughter of the late, John Lacy and Tena Samantha Dalton; and was also preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years, Ernest William Smith; and three brothers, Bobby Ray, Maynard Henry and Lacy Gene Dalton. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Smith Moore; two sons, Ernest William Smith, Jr. and wife, Jennie Runnels-Smith and Robert Michael Smith and wife, Karen Florence Smith; two grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Flis and husband, Kevin, and Michael Ryan Moore and wife, Kerry; one great-grandson, Owen Dalton Flis; and a brother, Jerry Norris Dalton. Mrs. Smith retired from Colonial Heights Public Schools in 1990 after twenty-five years of service teaching fifth grade at North Elementary School. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. She played contract bridge and doubles tennis with equal enthusiasm. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery, Danville, VA.
