On Monday, November 9, 2009 a good and honorable man died. Nelson E. Morton was born in Charlotte County, Va., on May 1, 1927. He lived in Dinwiddie County and worked for many years as an electrical contractor in the tri-cities area. He was an avid fisherman, a wonderful husband, father, and faithful Christian. Nelson is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce B. Morton; son, Kirk Morton; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Henry Austin, sister, Rachael Newton, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Willie Jean and Raymond Johnson; and a very dear cousin, Walter O. Williams, Jr. who was like a brother to him. Nelson, who came from a very large family, is also survived by a host of loving and admiring nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and business associates. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Kenwood United Methodist Church, 25200 Ritchie Ave. Petersburg, VA 23803. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kenwood United Methodist building and maintenance fund or to the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 131 Old Well Road, Phenix, Virginia 23959.
