Norma Maxine Lucas Beemer was born to Georgia Myrtle Croy on August 4, 1929 in Giles County, Virginia. Her family moved to Petersburg, Virginia when Norma was between 8-9 years old. She was the second oldest child of seven siblings; one sister and five brothers, who predeceased her. They lived on Grove Avenue. She met her future husband, Emmett Eugene Beemer, Sr. at the skating rink in Colonial Heights, Virginia in February of 1949. She thought he was the “hottest thing to come down the road”. The feelings were obviously mutual because they were married four weeks later. Their marriage lasted 64 ½ years. Every day since he passed away, she wished he was still here with her. Now they are together again in each other’s arms.
From their love came five children in 6 ½ years, Carolyn (Dave), Sandy (Terry), Linda (David), Gene (Grace), Gail (Mike). What has ultimately followed is 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
