On Monday June 17 2024, Norris Earl Jones, Jr., loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 88.
Norris was born in Petersburg, Va in 1935 to Norris and Glennis (Picardat) Jones of Chesterfield, Va. After graduating from Thomas Dale High School, he attended Richmond Polytechnic Institute (now VCU) then served in the US Army in Hawaii for two years.
Around 1960 Norris started his own home building company, Norris E. Jones, Inc. Specializing in building quality houses in the Tri-City area at first, he later expanded his enterprise to include commercial property, constructing small business complexes and apartment buildings.
He served as president of the Home Builders Association of Southside Virginia for two terms. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce, the Colonial Heights Planning Commission and the Colonial Heights-Chester Advisory Board of First Virginia Bank.
Throughout his life, Norris enjoyed travel, fishing, spending time with his family and friends, and taking walks on the beach at his home in Sandbridge, Va. He also loved animals and had many dogs as close companions over the years, including Heidi, Liza, Puddin', Precious, and Rocky. He will be remembered by many for his caring heart and warm smile.
Norris was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Nancy Zercher Jones, his children Elizabeth Jones Guidry (Jon) and Gregory Earl Jones (Suzanne), his grandchildren Jeremy Jones, Skylar Guidry, Lauren Guidry, and Hannah Guidry, his sister Jacqueline Jones Greer, nieces Jane Fowler and Susan Lukeman (Tim). Norris also leaves many close and dear friends.
A graveside service will be held for immediate family at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, Va at 10 AM on Friday June 28. In lieu of flowers, donations to the local SPCA or other animal welfare organization are appreciated.
