Opha Winston Peden Sr. born May 31, 1948 passed away on February 9, 2015 after a short illness. A longtime resident of Chester, Opha graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1967 and earned his Associates Degree from the University of South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army 7th Calvary Division in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Opha spent much of his career in the nuclear power business, retiring from MCV as a Radiation Specialist. Preceded in death by his father, Andrew Peden, and nephew, Michael Peden, Opha is survived by his mother, Ethel Peden; loving wife of 26 years, Mary Ellen Peden; daughter, Tara Brinkley; sons, Opha Peden Jr. and Jesse Peden. He is also survived by his sisters, Dianne Gardner (John) and Gwen Journey (Randy); brothers, John Peden and Randy Peden; brothers-in-law, Andy Limbach (Marilyn) and Jess Limbach; sister-in-law, Janice Ruch (Steve); along with many nieces, nephews and cousins; and one special cousin, Gordon Nelson (Sandra). Friends may call from 1 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, where a Memorial Service Celebrating the Life of Opha will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
