Pansy Dean Hawkins Pansy Dean Hawkins, 84, of Chester, VA passed away on November 29, 2016. Born in Rowland, North Carolina on September 27, 1932, she was the only daughter of Elvin C. Dean and Dorothy Hicks Dean. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Edward Hawkins; a grandson, Jacob Murray Hawkins; and her seven brothers, Carlyle, Broddus, Glenn, Francis, Elvin, Benjamin, and Bobby. Pansy graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1951 before taking a job at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond. After her marriage in 1953, she devoted her life to her family, her greatest joy in life. Pansy is survived by her son, Dean Edward Hawkins and his wife, Brenda Murray Hawkins of Chester; a daughter, Paige Hawkins Hackney and her husband, Dr. Stephen Andrew Hackney of Houghton, MI. To continue her legacy, she is also survived by four fine grandsons, Jonathan David Hawkins(Deborah) of Noblesville, IN, Eric Andrew Hackney of Houghton, MI, Dr. Drew Alexander Hackney of Raleigh, NC and Brian James Hackney(Antoinette) of Northville, MI. She was the proud great- grandmother of Nora Elizabeth Hawkins. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The procession that will leave the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home at 9:30. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chester Baptist Church in her honor.
