Paul Smith

Paul Franklin Smith, 83, of Petersburg, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Smith and Nellie Hampton Smith; his wife, Anna Magdalena Smith; son Paul Edgar Smith; brother Edgar Smith; sisters, Ethel Wilder and Lucille Baker. Mr. Smith enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a member of Crater View Baptist Church in Petersburg. He served in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972. He was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge and three Bronze Stars for his service in Korea. He also served in Viet Nam and in the occupation of Germany. He is survived by his sons, Michael G. Smith, and Patrick D. Smith; 3 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; 5 nieces and 4 nephews. The interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
