Pauline Dobrick, 72, of Hopewell, passed suddenly on Monday, November 2, 2009 at John Randolph Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret McLaughlin Van Volkom, and was preceded in death by her son, Paul Creggar. Pauline was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #284. Through the Auxiliary, she volunteered at McGuire Veterans Hospital, the Colonial Heights Health Care Center, and many American Legion functions. She is survived by her husband, Donald Dobrick; her daughter, Margy Chandler and husband, Gary; step-children, Donald Dobrick Jr. and wife, Judy of Colonial Heights, Cindy Dobrick Haynie and husband, Sean of Colonial Heights; Michael Dobrick of Hopewell, and Nikki Dobrick Benninghoff and husband, Bill of Colonial Heights; ten grandchildren, Cindy Brady and husband, Brad, Mary Hillsman and husband, Mike, Brooke, Elizabeth, Max, Paige, Kala, Hannah, Jules, and Serena; a great-granddaughter, Rosemary Hillsman; a sister, Chris Ahrend and husband, George of Hopewell; nephews, Chuck Ahrend and wife, Kim and family, Brittany Ahrend, Toni and husband Andrew, & David of Chesapeake, and Chip Ahrend of Hopewell; her "second Mom," Jenny Van Volkom and family; and many cousins living in New Jersey. A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, November 5, 2009 in Appomattox Cemetery, 703 N. 21st Avenue, Hopewell, Virginia 23860 with Mr. Ben Hawkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
