Peggy Brockwell Townsend Watts, 86, of Colonial Heights passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at her home. Born July 9, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Rachel Bibb Brockwell, and was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Bernard Samuel Watts, and great-grandson, Everest Townsend.
A woman of faith, Peggy was a devoted member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church for over 25 years, where her warmth and kindness touched many lives. She balanced her professional and personal life with grace, working as a quality control specialist for Dupont for 20 years before retiring.
Peggy excelled in her role as a homemaker, creating a loving and welcoming home filled with the aromas of her excellent cooking.
Beyond her family, Peggy was an active and vibrant member of her community. She once cultivated beauty as a member of the Oak Hill Garden Club and brought joy to others as part of the Colonial Heights Moose Lodge, where she enjoyed playing Bingo. A master of Bunko, Peggy also found excitement with slot machines, embracing her love of gambling with an infectious spirit of fun.
Peggy found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved trips to the beach, shopping excursions in Williamsburg, and spending time with her family. A frequent shopper on the QVC network, Peggy had a keen eye for finding treasures that delighted her loved ones.
She is survived by her sons, Robert P. Townsend III and wife, Jody, Kevin S. Townsend and fiancée, Debra McDonald; stepdaughter, Debra Watts Owens and husband, Brian; grandsons, Travis B. Townsend and wife, Brianna, Brandon S. Townsend and wife, Megan; granddaughters, Shannon and Kristen; great-grandchildren, Blakelynne Mae Townsend, Macklin Samuel Townsend, Violet Aurora Grace Townsend, Jaxon Keeter, and two precious babies on the way; sisters, Bettie B. Fall and husband, Bob, Dayle B. Nicol and husband, Bill, Gayle B. Lancaster and husband, Jim; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, December 12, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
