Peyton Russell Stewart Jr., 87, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Ethel Culbreth and Peyton Russell Stewart Sr. Mr. Stewart was a member of Woods United Methodist Church, and retired after 30 years of service as a Maintenance Supervisor with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. He is survived by his wife, Joan I. Stewart; two daughters, Carol S. Thurman and husband, David M. Thurman Jr. of Colonial Heights, and Patricia S. Williams and husband, A. B. Williams Jr. of Chesterfield; a son, Philip R. Stewart Sr. and wife, Evelyn N. of Dinwiddie; six grandchildren, Ray Thurman, Kimberly Bollinger, Jason Williams, Kristen Woodard, Joseph A. Pierce III, and Philip R. Stewart Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla Thurman, Hunter Woodard, Aaron Woodard, Avery Williams, Gavin Williams, Walker Hostetter, and Breanna Nicole Pierce; a sister, Jean S. Collier of Colonial Heights; and a brother, Robert S. Stewart of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 in Woods United Methodist Church, 7200 Hickory Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Joseph Carson III, and the Reverend Daryl Guy officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Woods United Methodist Church.
