LTC Philip Leonard Eckman (US Army, Retired), 81, of Colonial Heights passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at his residence. Born February 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Philip Momberg Eckman and Louise Anne Eckman, and was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith L. Engelbrecht.
Mr. Eckman retired as a Lieutenant Colonel infantry officer from the United States Army after 23 years of faithful service to his country. He was the owner of the Bike Pedaler shop for 20 years. Mr. Eckman was a member of Cameron Avenue Church of Christ; the past Archivist for the Virginia Canals and Navigations Society; and past president of Old Dominion Postcard Club.
He is survived by his loving wife, Olga H. Eckman; sons Mark A. Eckman, Peter M. Eckman; daughter Joanna L. Nee and their families.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Cameron Avenue Church of Christ, 601 Cameron Ave., Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
