Phillip Johnson

Phillip Carroll "Buddy" Johnson, 78, of Prince George, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born and raised in the Blandford area of Petersburg, he was the son of the late Reuben L. and Bertha Fuller Johnson. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, a United States Army veteran and retired with 37 years of service from Honeywell. Buddy enjoyed working with his brother on his nephew's farm in Sussex. He is survived by two sons, Phillip Carroll Johnson Jr. and fiancée, Janice D. Townsend of Petersburg and Brian Edward Johnson of Colonial Heights; the mother of his children, Mary Lynn Johnson of Petersburg; four grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Kasey Bryant, Emily Esther Johnson and Carolyn Gayle Johnson; one great-granddaughter, Kara Phoenix Shores; a brother, Richard H. Johnson of Prince George; two sisters, Annie Pacheco of Colonial Heights and Eunice B. Mapley and husband, Harold of Prince George. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road with the Reverend David A. Holbert officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 12715 Acorn Drive, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
