Phyllis Virginia Pierce, 72, of Matoaca, died on April 23, 2009 at Johnston Willis Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late: William Henry Sr. and Willie Emory Archer and was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew "Buckshot" Pierce Jr. and daughter, Wanda Pierce Henshaw. She was a former employee of Wal-Mart and was a member of Matoaca Christian Fellowship Church. Mrs. Pierce is survived by her son, Matthew B. Pierce III and wife, Tracy of Prince George; a daughter, Rita Pierce Pate and husband, Terry of Dinwiddie; four grandchildren, Blair L. Pierce, McKenzie L. Pierce, Amy Myers, and Megan Varga; four great grandchildren, Trey Burton, Jake Burton, Makayla Varga, and Madison Varga; two sisters and one brother, Arlene Briggs, Annette Jackson and husband, Gene, and C.C. Archer "Honey" and wife, Sue; numerous nieces and nephews; also survived by devoted friends, Carlton and Lois Daulton and Judy Ford. A Chapel service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Ryan Atchison and the Reverend Russ Mason officiating. Interment East Matoaca Cemetery, Chesterfield. The family will be receiving friends Sunday evening from 7-8:30 pm at the funeral home.
