Rachel Baker

Rachel Minetree Baker, 93, of Matoaca, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015 at her residence. Born in Martin County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Berry J. and Ada Matthews Sessums. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Vernon C. Minetree, and her husband of 20 years, Archie F. Baker; three brothers and two sisters. She was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday school class. Mrs. Baker retired after 39 years of service with AT&T, and was a member of the Pioneers and the Bells. She is survived by two daughters, Verna Gail M. Milton and husband, Donnie of Colonial Heights and Jane M. Murphy and husband, Jimmy of Chesterfield; a devoted step-daughter, Gloria B. Rose and husband, Bill of Matoaca; two step-sons, Thomas R. Baker and wife, Debbie of Halifax and Claude A. Baker and wife, Maria of Matoaca; grandchildren, D. Cameron Milton, Jennifer M Tucker, Jaclyn Elizabeth Murphy, Kathryn Paige Warren, William Daniel Rose, Clinton T. Baker, Jacob F. Baker, Daniel A. Baker, and Angela B. Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane Tucker, Abigail Rose, Emily Gilbert, Dillon James Milton, William Rose Jr., and Evan Gilbert; special brother, Baxter J. Sessums of Dinwiddie; numerous nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Diana Hollars. The family wants to acknowledge the care and love provided by the staff of Crater Community Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Chaplain Craig Buxton officiating. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome or contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
