Rachel Griggs

July 26, 1951 — November 18, 2016

Rachel Bailey Griggs, 65, of Prince George, Virginia, left us to be with the good Lord in heaven, on Friday, November 18, 2016. She died peacefully, in the arms of her husband of 47 years following a courageous battle with cancer. Rachel was born in Hopewell, Virginia on July 26, 1951, to James Walter Bailey and the late Rachel Ozmore Bailey. A graduate of the class of '69 at Hopewell High School, she later married her high school sweetheart, Boyd G. Griggs, Jr., enjoying a marriage of 47 years. They were soon blessed with the birth of their first and only son, "Bo", Boyd Griggs III. Later, in 2004, she was overjoyed with the birth of her granddaughter, Jessica Maria Griggs of Sunny Iles, Florida. Rachel was a tireless advocate and worker for children in need of medical care through Shriners International. She served on ACCA Shriners Hospital Committee as well as the ACCA Shriners transportation team, transporting children and family members to Shriners Hospital for Children to receive expert medical treatment, regardless of the family's ability to pay. Rachel became the 1st Lady of ACCA Shriners in Richmond when her husband, Boyd, became its 109th Potentate in 2014. Rachel was a fun, beautiful and caring soul who always greeted you with a lovely smile and warm hug. She lived a life filled with love for all who knew her and died with an amazing grace. She is survived by her husband Boyd G. Greggs Jr; a son Boyd "Bo" Griggs, III, granddaughter, Jessica Maria Griggs, elder sisters, Brenda Elwood and Donna Wheeler (husband Dwight); younger brother, James C. Bailey (wife Tammy), and many beautiful nieces and nephews all of Prince George, Virginia. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016 in the Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. For those who would like to make a memorial contribution you may do so to the charity of your choice or to either of Rachel's favorite charities, the ACCA Shriners, 1712 Bellevue Ave., Richmond, VA 23227 or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
