Rachel Hopson Mann, 88, wife of Reginald L. Mann Jr., for 69 years, departed this life on February 28, 2010 at MCV Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle and William Hopson, two sisters, Mary Rosa Licata, Margaret Traylor and one brother, William (Buck) Hopson. Rachel was a lifetime member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church where she was active in the United Methodist Women and held every office in the organization, sometimes twice. She was a member of Chesterfield South Gideons International Ladies Auxiliary; a member of two Red Hat groups; a former representative of the Petersburg District UMW to the Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center (VUMAC); and a former Petersburg District UMW representative to the Hermitage Guild. She was the nursery attendant and taught Sunday school for many years at Ivey; a member of Woodpecker Grange and a member of the Golden Years Club. Rachel retired in 1982 from Defense General Supply Center after 22 years of service. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Dorothy and Ellis Dunkum, Reginald (Bubba) and Donna Mann, Nita and Dewain Hammond; grandchildren, Kelly Lyda, Jim and Sandi Dunkum, Crystal and Ron Regnery, Stacy and Mike Chisholm, Monica and Philip Tunstall, Eric and Tammy Dunkum, Heather and Orlando Perez, Jason and Gina Brooks, and Jennifer Brooks; sixteen great-grandchildren, Sarah and Shelton Lyda, Austin and Delton Dunkum, Cameron and Colin Regnery, Jed and Kate Dunkum, Noah and Holland Chisholm, Corey and Caleigh Tunstall, Nina and Mya Perez, and Jacob and Hunt Brooks; a sister, Grace and Arthur Beasley; one brother-in-law, John Licata; a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, 17120 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Tom Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chesterfield South Gideons International, P.O. Box 185, Chesterfield, Virginia 23832.
