Rachel P. Ramsay, 87, of Nova, died at Hospice House in Ashland, Ohio on Wednesday evening December 23, 2009. She was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on September 12, 1922 a daughter of Fletcher P. Johnson Sr. and Pearl Jefferson Johnson. She was a wonderful homemaker and a member of the Savannah United Methodist Church and had been a lay leader at the church for many years. Rachel was a world traveler, visiting sixty-nine different countries, and she enjoyed spending many winters in Puerto Rico with her husband and friends. She is survived by her husband, Dale Ramsay, they were married on Christmas Eve in 1983. She is also survived by two daughters, Janett P. Boyce, and Arlene P. (Donnie) Faison all of Colonial Heights, Virginia; two step-daughters, Joyce (Marvin) Gallaway of Mansfield, Ohio, and Janice (Mike) Weirich of Ashland; one step-son, Rex (Elizabeth) Ramsay of Nova, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Denise H. (Tommy) Black, Marla H. (Tommy) Hodge, Melissa F. (Steve) Crutchfield, Jennifer (Josh) Morr, Ben Ramsay, Daniel (Wendy) Gallaway, Leeann Gallaway, Jackie Weirich, and Nick Weirich; twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Huff of Akron, Ohio and her brother, Melvin (Marie) Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida; a devoted friend, Diane Chandler and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Richard, and F.P. Johnson Jr., and a granddaughter, Justine L. Good who died in November of this year. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Chance Price and the Reverend Fred Adkins officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
