Raenord Walker

Raenord B. Walker, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on January 5, 2019. He was born in Leaksville, NC, (now known as Eden, NC) on June 16, 1933, along with his identical twin, Raeford, to D. Curtis and Blanche L. Walker. Raenord was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Raeford Walker, Elwood Walker, J.W. Talley, Dewey Talley, and Lawrence Talley, and his sisters Helen Hancock, Lucille Simpson, Pat Thompson, and Lavonne Hall. He is survived by his wife, Emily, his children, Lisa Walker and David Walker (Kim); grandchildren Nicholas and Olivia Walker; brother, Leon Walker (Gail), and many other very dear nieces and nephews. Raenord had a lifetime love of basketball. In high school, he, with his brothers Raeford and Leon, played in two North Carolina state championship games. After earning a bachelor's degree and Master of Arts in Education at East Carolina University, Raenord taught at Midlothian High School and coached basketball, where the team was runner-up in the 1961 state championship. He taught and was the basketball coach at Colonial Heights High School. Raenord led the basketball team to the state championship finals two years in a row, and the team won the 1963 Group 2 State Championship. Following his high school teaching and coaching career, Raenord had a distinguished career in civil service as a Course Director at the Army Logistics Management College. In 1996 he won the Defense Standardization Program Outstanding Performance Award for his efforts to promote standardization and specification reform throughout the Department of Defense. After retiring in 1998, Raenord enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was also a longtime faithful member of Highland United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Highland United Methodist Church 125 E. Westover Avenue Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery 5083 Mount Pleasant Road Meherrin, Virginia 23954. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Contributions may be made to Highland United Methodist Church
