Raymond Barry Hill, 71, of DeWitt passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at his home. Born November 12, 1949, he was the son of the late Raymond Powell and Annie Gardner Deadmon Hill and was also preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie A. Heller. A lifelong resident of Dinwiddie County, Barry graduated from Dinwiddie High School in 1968. A United States Army National Guard veteran, he honorably served his country for six years. He was owner and operator of Ford Construction Company. An avid hunter and fishman, he was a dedicated member of Yale Hunt Club. He is survived by his life partner, Sherry Trayer; daughters, Elizabeth Hill and Jennifer Walls; granddaughter, Zoey; grandsons, Landon, Corbin, Colton, Colin-Ray; sister, Jo Carol Mayton and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Barry was a one-of-a-kind guy. Wherever he went he had a friend and if he didn't when he got there, he did when he left. Tough, but with a heart of gold, Barry worked hard, played hard and loved hard. Friend, family or stranger, if you asked for help, he would give it. A man not so much of words, but of actions, that have left many with fond memories that are now such a comfort in his absence. Of the many ways Barry is remembered, from tough to dependable, from fun loving to sometimes downright crazy, none are as special or true as 'Partner', 'PaPa', 'Dad'. He was a free spirit that will forever be missed. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday night May 14, 2021 at the funeral home.
