Raymond Burdine Norton, Sr., 89, of Chesterfield, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Johnston-Willis Medical Center. He was born in Natural Bridge, Virginia and was the son of the late, James Burdine and Minnie Elsworth Norton. Mr. Norton was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mabel Robinson Norton. He was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Norton was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and was retired from Allied Chemical Co. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Robertson Norton; a daughter, Ruth Emma Parker and husband, John H. of Dinwiddie; a son, Raymond B. Norton, Jr. of Richmond; three grandchildren, John Parker of Dinwiddie, Chad Parker of Washington, D.C., and Paul Parker of Texas; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Benjamin Parker. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2008 at Ivey United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Brown officiating, with interment at Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
