RESCHEDULED for 1:00 pm Thursday February 11, 2010 Reba Honeycutt Wheeler, 93, died on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Colonial Heights Health Care Center. She was born on November 20, 1916, in Praise, Kentucky, the daughter of the late, General Breckinridge and Alta Ratliff Honeycutt. She had lived in the Tri-Cities area for seventy-one years. She was predeceased by her husband, of 57 years, Parker Y. Wheeler; brothers, Denzel and Travis J. Honeycutt; and sisters, Dorothy H. Robinette and Edith H. Smyth. Mrs. Wheeler had a long and successful career with the Department of Defense at Fort Lee, Virginia where she began during World War II. She was a devoted and energetic member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for more than 60 years. She held many offices during those years and was notable in being the first woman to hold the position of President of the Official Board. She lived a great life with grace and dignity and touched the lives of many through her caring and kindness. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ann W. Abernathy and son-in-law, William L. Abernathy of Colonial Heights; her grand-daughters, Reba Kay A. Rockett, and Alta A. Twiford and husband, Scott; her great-grandsons, Parker and Preston Twiford all of Chesterfield County. She is survived by her brothers, Kelton C. Honeycutt and wife, Loretta of Disputanta, Virginia, and Jack A. Honeycutt and wife, Dee of Goldfield, Nevada and many much loved nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the First Christian Church, 301 S. Boulevard, Petersburg, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Richard Hedrick and the Reverend Jill Jordan officiating. Entombment in Southlawn Memorial, Park Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
