Rebecca Wells Avery, 90, of North Dinwiddie, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at her residence. Born in Dinwiddie County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Budd and Effie Connelly Wells, and was the widow of John W. Avery. She was a member of AARP Fort Lee Chapter, the Super Senior church group and was a long time member of Kenwood United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the choir. Mrs. Avery is survived by her daughters, Gloria Starck (Paul) of Chester, Joan Smith (Kenneth) of Church Road; grandson, K. Avery Smith (Kristin) of Church Road; a sister Virginia Hargrave of North Dinwiddie and a brother John B. Wells of Florida. A special thanks to Mrs. Avery's caregivers throughout the past years. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with the Rev. Mary Dadisman officiating. Burial to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kenwood United Methodist Church 25200 Ritchie Ave. North Dinwiddie 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
