Reverend Wilson Sr.

June 6, 1932 — December 14, 2017

Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, James was the son of the late Joshua Albert Wilson and Hazel Alta (Stead) Wilson. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Joyce Wilson; his granddaughter, Tara Wilson; his parents; five sisters, and brother, Charles Wilson. Rev. Wilson spent his life serving the Lord. He served as pastor to Adial Baptist, Reidville Baptist, Sussex Baptist, Goshen Baptist and Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church. He also served his country in the Korean War and then worked for the government until he retired. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his children, James Wilson, Jr. (Delma), Stephen Wilson (Lori), Timothy Wilson (Susan), Melanie Hurd (Robert-deceased), and Joshua Wilson (Lorrie); a sister, Debbie Curnes (Paul); grandchildren, Andrew Wilson (Amanda), Nathaniel Hurd (Shere), Heather Wilson, Racheal Satterwhite (Glenn), Ashley Wilson, Alicia Weldon (Kevin), Claire Ashley (Frank), Ryan Wilson, Caleb Wilson (Alexa), Lauren Barnes (Robert), and Benjamin Wilson; his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Philip, Matthew, and Owen Satterwhite, Kennis Hurd, Savannah and Anthony Smith, Bailey Wilson, Kylie Wilson, and Miriam Wilson, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 17007 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Colonial Heights, VA 23834 with Pastor Ray Haskett officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow the service at Southlawn Memorial Park 1911 Birdsong Rd. South Prince George, VA 23805. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church in James' memory.
