Richard F. Archer, Jr., 83, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at his residence, beloved wife by his side. He was born in Prince George County and raised in Petersburg. He was a graduate of the class of 1958 from Petersburg High School. He was employed as an Electrical and Instrument Supervisor for 44 years with Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation before he retired. Richard was a member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He was preceded in death by his father Richard F. Archer Sr. and his mother Ida H. Archer.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shelby Richardson Archer; daughter, Lesli A. Deadmon of Prince George Co.; sons, Richard Bruce Archer and wife, Mary, of Prince George Co., and Jeffrey N. Archer Sr. and wife, Vicki, of Colonial Heights; grandchildren, Kristina Archer and Jeffrey N. Archer Jr.; one great-grandson, Aiden Michael Caouette; sisters, Joyce A. Wallace. of Chesterfield Co., Charlotte Zeb and husband John, of The Villages, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved listening to traditional country music and watching Nascar Sprint Cup races on tv.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 with a funeral service to follow at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, S. Prince George.
