Richard Owen Eley, 73, of Dinwiddie, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at his residence. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of the late Carl L. Eley and Anna Caudle Skinner. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lois & Jimmie Caudle, a grandson, James V. Stidham, and a great-granddaughter, Ave Grace Doughty. Mr. Eley was a member of Central Baptist Church, and former Owner/Operator of Eley's Barbecue, and had retired after 27 years with B.I. Chemical. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Evelyn Roberts Eley; daughters, Anna Eley (Trey) of DeWitt, Cindy Stidham of Petersburg, and Ellen Severson (Andy) of Colonial Heights; a son, Dwayne Morris (Sherrie) of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Jessi Eagle, Jacob Doughty, Kristen Stidham, Cody Morris, Cameron Morris, Meagan Bowles, Torie Dye, and Ryan Severson; three great-grandchildren, Alex Doughty, Zoey and Brooklyn Woodruff; two brothers, Ed Inge (Cindy) of Petersburg and Robbie Eley (Raeann) of Colonial Heights; and a sister, Denise Eley of Prince George. Special thanks to Tracy, Debbie, Cherry and Pastor Greg for their wonderful help from Crater community Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Western Heights Baptist Church, 24416 Cox Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23803 with the Reverend Jonathan Waits officiating. Burial will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
