Richard Heartwell Sr.

Richard Phillip Heartwell Sr., 79, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Martha Bolling Atkinson Heartwell, the son of the late George Harrison and Anna Elizabeth Bourdon Heartwell and was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Heartwell and Thomas Bourdon Heartwell. Mr. Heartwell was a retired supervisor with the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike Authority, and was a member of the Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church. He is survived by two sons, Richard Phillip Heartwell Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Thomas Meade Heartwell of Colonial Heights; a daughter, Elizabeth Heartwell Belcher and husband, Jim of Chester; four grandchildren, Matthew Phillip Heartwell, Stephen Nicholas Belcher, Timothy Meade Heartwell, and James Corbin Belcher; a sister, Elizabeth Heartwell Parker of New Hampshire; numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Concord Presbyterian Church, Rawlings, Virginia with the Reverend Glenda Hollingshead officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
