Richard Smith

Richard "Smitty" Wayne Smith, 69, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Medical College of Virginia. Born in Iota, LA he was the son of the late Douglas and Beatrice Myers Smith. Mr. Smith was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Smitty was a United States Army veteran, and had a love for cats. He spent every day doing all he could to rescue them. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Brenda J. Smith; two sons, Michael W. Smith and wife, Amy and Benjamin Smith; one daughter, Michelle Smith; a step-daughter, Mary Wade and husband, William; two grandsons, Tyler and Zachary Smith; two brothers, Donald Smith and Michael Myers; and a half-sister, Selena Smith. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the funeral home from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service to being at 11:00 a.m. A private interment will be held at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your local SPCA in memory of Mr. Smith.
