Richard Stanley

Richard Nolan Stanley, 73, of Prince George, VA, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Monday, March 22, 2021 at home with his family. Nolan was born in Clay County, IL the son of Venice Zasloff, Las Vegas, NV and the late Monty M. Stanley. He was preceded in death by his step-mother Nita Stanley and sister, Jill. Nolan was active in many organizations and enjoyed staying in touch with lifelong friends. He was a member of the Petersburg Masonic Lodge #15, ACCA Shriners, Richmond, member of the Oriental Band, Past President of the South Atlantic Association of Oriental Bands, Hopewell Shrine Club, American Legion Post 2, Petersburg and Legion Riders. One of his passions was transporting children and their families to one of the Shriners Hospitals for Children for treatment. He completed more than 200 trips to Philadelphia, PA, Greenville, SC, and Cincinnati, OH. He always had a suitcase packed and ready to go. He also loved riding his motorcycle. As a member of the American Legion Riders, he participated in several National and State Legacy rides which provide scholarships for children of fallen and disabled military members. He was a United States Army veteran, serving for 23 years. But most of all he loved his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary; daughter, Angie; son, Scott; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry (Josette) of Oxford, OH and David (Karen) of Champaign, IL; sister, Nilda of Champaign (IL); many nieces and nephews and close friend, Ossie Rodriguez. Throughout his military career he made many friends and continued those friendships throughout the years. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Due to Covid-19 limitations at the funeral home, Nolan’s family will receive friends at American Legion Post #2, 820 Winfield Road, Petersburg, VA 23803 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children, % of ACCA Shrine Center, 1712 Bellevue Ave, Richmond, VA 23227.
