Rob Roy Gordon, Jr., 72, of Chesterfield, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 peacefully at his residence. He was born in Suffolk, Virginia and was the son of the late, Rob Roy Gordon, Sr. and Miriam Brown Gordon. Mr. Gordon was a U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired Industrial Machine Designer employed at Allied Chemical for twenty-six years. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #284 Colonial Heights, past Commander of the 11th District, Past American Legion Department of Virginia Commander and currently the National Executive Committeeman Department of Virginia, member and past Chef de Gare of the 40/8 Voiture 1530. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edgar P. Gordon, a sister, Miriam G. Pugh and a son, David Lewis Garber. He is survived by his wife, Betty Morrissette Gordon, a daughter, Kathy Garber Wray and husband, Harvey of Victoria, Va.; a son, Michael C. Garber and wife, Cory of Dumfries, Va.; three grandchildren, Justin R. Clement of Victoria, Va., Stacey M. Taylor of Cumberland, Va., and Matthew C. Garber of Dumfries; Va., three great grandchildren, Brittany, Kaytlin and Kaleb; sister, Mary (Terrye) Bradshaw and husband, Russell of Suffolk, Va.; a brother, Randolph R. Gordon and wife, Lana of Comer, Georgia; seven nieces and seven nephews. A funeral service will be held Thursday August 7, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Mr. Keith McMurdo, the Rev. Randolph Gordon and the Rev. Dr. David Russell officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
