Robert Earle Bailey, 66, of Richmond, passed away Friday, November 8, 2013. He was the son of Margaret Irene Hoops and the late Everett Earle Bailey. Robert was a noted author, and his first novel, PRIVATE HEAT, an action - packed private eye thriller, won the Josiah W. Bancroft Award at the Florida First Coast Writer's Festival and was a finalist for the 2003 Shamus Award, given by the Private Eye Writers of America. His second novel, DYING EMBERS, was a finalist for the Great Lakes Book Award. He was a proud Vietnam veteran and award winning combat pistol shot, who retired as a reservist from the Army as a field-grade officer. Survivors include his wife, Linda Lyons-Bailey; three sons, Sean P. Bailey of Michigan, Eric E. Bailey of Chester, and Adam R. Bailey of Fredericksburg; sister, Mary Sue Bailey of Michigan; and four grandchildren. Interment will be held at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
