Robert Chester

Robert Eugene Chester, 90, of Colonial Heights went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Binghamton, New York he was the son of the late Adams and Eugenia Chester and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Eleanor R. Chester and a brother, Adams Chester Jr. Mr. Chester was a WWII United States Army Veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. He sang with a gospel group called the Gospel Heirs; his beautiful tenor voice will remembered by many. Robert was an active member of Boulevard UMC in Binghamton, New York until he and his wife relocated to Virginia in 1995 to be close to their family. He continued his active service to his Lord by transferring membership to Woods UMC. Mr. Chester is survived by three daughters, Karen Chester of Colonial Heights, Jeanne Amos (Barry) of Chesterfield and Sue Bennett (Gary Alderman) of Chesterfield; three granddaughters, Carrie Desmond (Peter), Lori Bennett (James Flannery), and Katie Amos; three great granddaughters, Shawn Desmond, Kara Desmond and Sophia Flannery. He is also survived by his loyal canine companion Peggy. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Woods UMC 7200 Hickory Road, Petersburg, VA. 23803, with the Reverend Joseph Carson III, and the Reverend David Morefield officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of service at church.
