Robert Wilmer Foster, 94, of Colonial Heights, passed away at home, after a short illness, on Sunday, May 27, 2012. He was the son of Robert Peak Foster and Valia Foster Pruitt. He was preceded in death, by his dear wife, Margaret Vaughan Foster, and a sister, Iris Stevens. Robert, a 38 year employee of Norfolk & Western Railroad, now Norfolk & Southern, retired in 1978. Robert loved the game of golf, his passion for more than six decades. He loved the sportsmanship and companionship of the game, having made 9 holes in one during his life. He was a veteran of WWII, fighting in both France and Germany. He is survived by his son, Randy V. Foster and wife, Linda of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; and a grandson, Carey V. Foster of North Carolina; niece, Carol Saunders of Hopewell; care giver extraordinaire, Nicole Fields, whose love and compassion were greatly appreciated; honorary granddaughters, Rachel Chieppa and Jamie Jackson. Robert also leaves behind special friends, from the golf course and railroad, Dorothy Smith and the Newsome family; extended family, Jean & Phil Driskill, Kay & George Boykin, Robert & Kathy Vaughan, Phillip & Sharon Driskill, Eric & Marie Driskill; numerous great-nieces and nephews. The Foster family would like to extend their appreciation to all who cared for Robert, including ICU at Southside and Dr. Kevin Keller. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment, Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
