Robert H. “Bob” Edwards, 85, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Born March 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Ruby Abernathy Edwards, and was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Dobson Edwards; daughter, Karen L. Edwards; and brother, J. Manfred Edwards.
Bob successfully completed his high school education at Prince George High School, then earned a Master of Science in criminal justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. Commencing his professional journey as a Virginia State Trooper, he eventually culminated his career as the Assistant Director of Forensic Science for the State of Virginia in 1984.
He was an active member of both Olive Branch Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Bob and his wife initially resided at Lake Gaston for two decades. Owing to health concerns, they later relocated to Glen Allen. However, in their later years, they returned to Colonial Heights, choosing proximity to their children and other family members.
Bob's most cherished moments revolved around aiding others, spending time with his wife of 63 years, enjoying the company of his family, and pursuing interests such as travel, golf, and fishing.
He is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Edwards (Charles White); grandson, James R. Ivey (Tiffany); two great-grandchildren, Payton and Colton; sister-in-law, Anne Dobson; and many other special family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805, with the Reverend Dr. Randy Clipp officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
