Robert Hamm, Jr.

Buddy Hamm (Robert Paul Jr.) received the ultimate miracle on Thursday, September 16, 2021 as he was welcomed home to be with his Savior. Buddy began a relationship with Jesus in 1984 and has been growing and sharing his faith ever since. His life verse became Philippians 3:10 My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings being conformed to His death.

He was born December 6, 1970, to Bob (Robert Paul Sr.) and Sparkie (Patricia) Hamm in Petersburg, Virginia. He was raised in Colonial Heights and graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1989. In 1993, he began a very successful career as a salesman for Mauck & Company in Richmond. In 2004, Buddy accepted the call to full time ministry, joining the staff at Colonial Heights Baptist Church (now known as The Heights Baptist Church) as their Children's Pastor. In 2013, he became Campus Pastor of the first multi-site location, The Heights Midlothian Campus. Buddy put his blood, sweat, and tears into the campus, taking it from several rented theater rooms at Commonwealth 20 to a completely renovated church building in Market Square. He was well known as a handyman, using his skills and creativity to complete most of the renovations himself along with the help of his family and church family.

Buddy met his wife, Kerri, in May of 1991 when she walked into Colonial Heights Baptist Church for the first time. He took one look at her and before even meeting her said to his family "I'm going to marry that girl". They married October 23, 1993 and raised three amazing children together: Todd, Trey, and Ashley. Buddy became "Pop" on June 1, 2020 after the birth of his first grandchild, Sullivan "Sully" Alexander. He was a godly husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family well.  He attended every ballgame, dance recital, and event that involved his children. Buddy used his artistic ability to make his children's bedroom walls the envy of their friends. He loved gift giving and making birthdays and holidays extra special. Buddy also loved the beach, mountains, cruises, and taking trips with his whole family. Those who knew him well could count on him to provide the latest and most accurate weather predictions. He was the family meteorologist. He always juggled multiple home improvement projects in order to bring the family's vision of a dream home to life.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, both will be held at The Heights Baptist Church, 17201 Jefferson Davis Highway, S. Chesterfield, Virginia 23834.

He is survived by his wife, Kerri; sons, Todd (Brittany) and Trey; daughter, Ashley; parents, Bob and Sparkie; brother, Phillip (Christy); and grandson, Sullivan.

Buddy's infectious smile and relentless teasing of those he loved will be missed greatly, but the impact he made not only in the community but across the country and into the world will live on in the lives he helped change!
