Robert Hummer

Robert T. Hummer, Col. Ret. JAG, 96, of Colonial Heights, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. He was the son of the late, Anthony and Theresa Sipchen Hummer. Mr. Hummer was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for many years. He is retired from the U.S. Army having served during WWII. Mr. Hummer was an enlisted non commissioned officer for both active and reserve status for 26 years. He retired in rank of Colonel, JAG, U.S. Army in 1967. He is a member of the Retired Officer's Association, Southside Chapter, and the Petersburg Council Knights of Columbus. Bob was a member of "The Greatest Generation." He is survived by his wife, Anna M. Hummer; a daughter, Mary-Therese R. Hummer Soden of Richmond; three grandchildren, Hustin J., Brandon R. and Mary-Kathryn Soden all of Richmond. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 151 W. Washington Street, Petersburg with Fr. Steve Antes, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with a Christian Wake service at 6:00 p.m. Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Outreach, 11 N. Market Street, Petersburg, Virginia 23803
