Robert Lee Morris Mr. Robert Lee Morris, 86, best known to all as "Shorty", passed away at Southside Regional Medical Center on Thursday, December 30th after a battle with cancer. A native of Matoaca, he was born to the late Carrie and George Morris on June 8, 1924 in South Boston, VA. Mr. Morris was baptized at Black Walnut Baptist Church, Cluster Springs, VA in Halifax County at an early age. He served his country in WWII, receiving a purple heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post #136 in Ettrick and member of VFW Post 637, Hopewell. He was a retired CMC Warehouse Operator of Hercules Inc. Mr. Morris was no stranger to anyone that met him. His garage, where he would spend his time daily, was always open to all, whether it was to repair a broken lawnmower, fix a tire or just shoot the breeze. He was a teacher to many who came by needing a hand on how to fix a broken part for their vehicle, weed eater, or just about anything that had a motor on it. Mr. Morris is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years , Doris Baugh Morris, two loving daughters, Sandra Riggins and husband, Wayne and Linda Edelblute and husband, John; four grandchildren: Robert Riggins and wife, Tiffany and Jason Riggins and wife, Silvia, Wendy Davis and Angela Thompson; four great grandchildren; Ethan Davis, Dylan, Katelyn and Jenna Thompson; three brothers: Ronnie Richardson (Debbie), of Sutherland, VA; Earl Morris (Jenny) of New York; Richard Falcone (Jeanie) of New York and a sister, Glorius (Wally) Underhill of Colonial Heights; a host of nephews and nieces, as well as many devoted friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Colonial Heights chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory 2033 Boulevard 23834. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4th in the Chapel of the E Alvin Small Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery. Gathering will be at the home of Sandra and Wayne Riggins, following the funeral service. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
