Robert (Bob) Edgar Poe, age 64, of Carroll County, VA, passed away peacefully in hospice after complications from diabetes, on April 23rd, 2017, in Winston-Salem, NC. He is preceded in death by his nephew, Jeffrey Swiney, of Dinwiddie, VA. Bob was born on December 29th, 1952 in Fort Hood TX. In 1971, upon graduating from high school in Colonial Heights, VA, he enlisted in the United States Army. Throughout his 22-year military career in armored cavalry and recruiting, he completed 2 tours in Germany, trained with the French Commandos, and patrolled the (formerly-known) Czechoslovakian border. After retiring from the Army in 1992, he continued a career in recruiting for 21-years including both executive management and transportation industries; often seeking opportunities for military veterans. Outside of work he enjoyed target shooting, motorcycle riding, watching motorsports, and spending time traveling throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Tara Poe, of Fairfax Station, VA; his parents, Edgar (Skippy) and Garnetta (Sue) Poe, of Colonial Heights, VA; his sister, Connie P. Jones, and nephew William Swiney, of Dinwiddie, VA. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th, 2017, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard. The family would like to thank the care providers at North Hospital of Surry County, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center ICU, Kate B.
